Wide Plank Flooring

Wide Plank flooring brings architectural presence and designer-led visual lines to interiors built for impression. Across The Aurelia Collection, The Belmont Collection, The Dune Collection, and The Stillwater Collection – WPC, each plank reaches 9 inches or wider — the format that reduces visible seams, expands visual flow, and makes the wood grain itself become the design element. Designed for modern, transitional, contemporary, and luxury interiors, wide-plank flooring delivers the calm, substantial presence that elevated spaces deserve.

    Wide Plank Flooring

Wide-plank flooring is 9 inches or wider — the format that defines designer-led interiors and reads instantly as more substantial than standard plank widths. The Residence Supply program offers wide-plank options across both engineered hardwood (Aurelia and Belmont) and waterproof vinyl (Dune and Stillwater WPC), giving designers flexibility to use wide-plank formats in both dry and wet areas of a whole-home installation.

Why Wider Planks Read as More Premium

A 10.25-inch plank in an 88-inch length removes approximately 40 percent of the visible joints in a room compared to a 5-inch plank. The floor reads more substantial, the grain becomes the design element, and the room appears larger because the eye travels further before encountering a seam.

    Wide-Plank Options Across the Program

    • The Aurelia Collection. 7.5-inch through 10.25-inch wide European Oak in 76-inch and 88-inch lengths. The widest plank-format range in the program.
    • The Belmont Collection — Wide Format. 9-inch wide European Oak at 84 inches long, with the program's thickest 6mm veneer.
    • The Dune Collection. 9.48-inch wide waterproof LVP for design-tier wet-room and whole-home installations.
    • The Stillwater Collection – WPC. 8.9-inch wide WPC for waterproof comfort-tier installations.

    Does Wider Mean More Expensive?

Yes. Wider, longer planks cost more to produce because more of the tree must be matched and cut to consistent dimensions. The wood quality, veneer, and core are the same across plank sizes within a collection; only the format and price differ.

Will Wide Planks Work in a Small Room?

Yes — and they actually make small rooms feel larger. The fear that wide planks overwhelm small rooms is largely a myth; the calmer visual lines and reduced seam count make spaces feel more expansive rather than busy.

    Installation Considerations

Wide planks require a flatter subfloor and more careful layout planning. We strongly recommend professional installation for wide-plank engineered hardwood. Plan a 12 to 15% waste factor for wide-plank installation vs the standard 10% for narrower formats.

    Dimensional Stability

Engineered wide planks with a stable cross-grain core perform reliably across humidity changes, including in the Florida climate. The Aurelia and Belmont engineered constructions are specifically designed to handle wide formats over concrete slabs without crowning or cupping.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a 'wide plank' floor?

Wide-plank flooring is 9 inches or wider. The Sales Manual defines wide-plank as 9-inch widths and above, with Aurelia's widest format at 10.25 inches representing the widest in our program.

Why do wider planks read as more premium?

A 10.25-inch plank in an 88-inch length removes approximately 40 percent of the visible joints in a room compared to a 5-inch plank. The floor reads more substantial, the grain becomes the design element, and the room appears larger because the eye travels further before encountering a seam.

    Which collections offer wide-plank options?

Aurelia (7.5" up to 10.25" wide, 76" to 88" long), Belmont's wide format (9" wide, 84" long), and Dune (9.48" wide LVP). For waterproof wide-plank, Stillwater WPC offers 8.9" planks.

Yes, and they actually make small rooms feel larger by reducing visible seams. The fear that wide planks 'overwhelm' small rooms is largely a myth; the calmer visual lines read as expansive rather than busy.

Do wide planks waste more material on installation?

Slightly. Wide planks are typically run in straight (non-staggered) layouts, which can produce more end cuts. Plan a 12 to 15% waste factor for wide plank installation, vs the standard 10% for narrower formats.

Are wide planks more prone to warping or cupping?

Engineered wide planks with a stable cross-grain core perform reliably across humidity changes, including in the Florida climate. Wide solid hardwood is genuinely more prone to seasonal movement, which is why we don't sell it.

What styles work best with wide-plank flooring?

Modern, transitional, Scandinavian, organic contemporary, high-end traditional, and luxury coastal interiors all build beautifully on a wide-plank floor. The clean visual lines support both minimal and richly furnished spaces.

Are wide planks harder to install?

Slightly. Wider planks require a flatter subfloor and more careful layout planning. We strongly recommend professional installation for wide-plank engineered hardwood. Wide-plank vinyl is more forgiving for DIY.

Are wide planks suitable for kitchens and high-traffic areas?

Yes. Wide-plank engineered hardwood is fully appropriate for kitchens with normal hardwood care, and wide-plank vinyl is excellent for any high-traffic or wet area. The wider format doesn't reduce durability.
