Glue-Down Install Flooring

Glue-Down Install flooring brings the most substantial, premium underfoot feel available in any flooring category. Designed for direct adhesive installation over concrete slab, each engineered hardwood collection — Sierra, Westvale, Aurelia, Hudson, and Belmont — creates a solid, grounded floor with no flex, no resonance, and the quiet presence of permanent construction. The standard method for hardwood in our region, glue-down installation delivers the lasting performance that designer-led residential and forever-home projects require.

    Glue-Down Install Flooring

Glue-down installation is the standard method for engineered hardwood in our region. Every plank in this collection is engineered for adhesive installation directly to a moisture-tested concrete slab, producing the most solid, premium underfoot feel available in any flooring category. Compared to floating floors, glue-down hardwood has no resonance, no flex, no hollow sound — just the substantial, grounded feel of a permanent floor.

All five Residence Supply hardwood collections — Sierra, Westvale, Aurelia, Hudson, and Belmont — are designed for glue-down installation over concrete and for nail-down installation over wood subfloors.

Why Glue-Down Is Right for Engineered Hardwood

Glue-down to concrete keeps the engineered plank stable through humidity changes and produces the solid underfoot feel that defines premium hardwood. The glue-down method is also what enables the program's wide-plank Aurelia and Belmont formats to perform reliably over Florida slabs without seasonal movement that would affect a floating installation.

    Installation Process

    1. Moisture testing. The concrete slab is tested for moisture content.
    2. Adhesive selection. The installer selects a professional-grade adhesive matched to the tested moisture level.
    3. Slab preparation. The slab is cleaned, leveled, and prepared for installation.
    4. Plank acclimation. Allow time for the planks to acclimate to the home's interior conditions.
    5. Plank-by-plank glue-down. Each plank is installed with adhesive directly to the slab.

    Timeline

A typical 1,500 to 2,500 square foot home takes about two days to install after concrete moisture testing is complete.

    Why Professional Installation Matters

We strongly recommend professional installation for all glue-down hardwood. Concrete moisture testing, professional-grade adhesive selection, and installer experience with adhesive curing all matter. Self-installed glue-down often runs into adhesive selection problems.

    Waste Factor

Plan a 10% waste factor for a single room or simple layout, 15% for whole-house with complex layouts, and 18 to 20% for herringbone patterns.

    Long-Term Value

The adhesive bond is designed to last the life of the floor. Thicker-veneer collections (Aurelia, Belmont) are especially preferred for forever homes because they support a full sanding refresh, allowing the look to be refreshed without removing the floor.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is glue-down installation?

Glue-down installation bonds each plank directly to the subfloor using a professional-grade adhesive. It's the standard method for engineered hardwood over concrete slabs in our region and produces the most solid, premium underfoot feel.

Why is glue-down required for engineered hardwood?

Glue-down to concrete keeps the engineered plank stable through humidity changes and produces a solid, premium underfoot feel. Floating engineered hardwood is possible but not what these collections are designed for.

How long does glue-down installation take?

A typical 1,500 to 2,500 square foot home takes about two days to install after concrete moisture testing has been completed. Allow time before installation for the planks to acclimate to the home's interior conditions.

Do I need to test my concrete subfloor first?

Yes, always. Concrete moisture testing is required before glue-down hardwood installation. Adhesive is selected based on the moisture levels detected. Skipping the test can lead to adhesive failure and floor problems years later.

Can I install glue-down hardwood myself?

We strongly recommend professional installation. Glue-down hardwood requires concrete moisture testing, professional-grade adhesives, and an installer's experience with adhesive selection. Self-installed glue-down often runs into problems.

Will the floor feel solid underfoot?

Yes. Glue-down hardwood feels notably more solid and substantial than floating floors because every plank is bonded to the subfloor. There's no hollow sound or flex.

Is the floor permanent after glue-down?

Effectively yes. The adhesive bond is designed to last the life of the floor. Removing a glue-down hardwood floor for replacement requires scraping or grinding, which is why the choice of material and color matters more than with a floating floor.

Can damaged planks be replaced after glue-down?

Single-plank replacement is more involved than with a floating floor. A skilled installer can cut and replace a damaged plank, blending it into the surrounding floor. This is part of why thicker-veneer collections (Aurelia, Belmont) are preferred for forever homes; they support a full sanding refresh instead of plank replacement.

What waste factor should I plan for?

10% for a single room or simple layout, 15% for whole-house with complex layouts, 18 to 20% for herringbone patterns. Engineered hardwood typically requires slightly more waste than vinyl because some boards may be set aside for natural color variation.

Can glue-down be installed over a wood subfloor?

Yes, though nail-down is more common over wood subfloors. Glue-down over plywood requires a specific adhesive selected for that subfloor type. Discuss with your installer at quote time.
