Details

Mounting Types: Downlights are available in trimless, recessed, semi-recessed, surface-mounted, and track-mounted formats. Be sure to confirm the mounting type in the product listing before beginning installation.
Ceiling Compatibility: Most models are designed for drywall ceilings. Some may also be compatible with concrete or drop ceilings, check the technical documentation for guidance.
Dimming: Many designs are dimmable when used with compatible drivers and wall dimmers.
Power Source: All models are hardwired and connect directly to a ceiling electrical junction.
Trim Integration: Trimless downlights may require professional finishing or flush-mount drywall techniques.
Track Compatibility: Track-mounted options are installed onto compatible rail systems. Refer to your product’s specification for track type.

Tools You May Need

• Drill
• Keyhole or drywall saw (for recessed or trimless installations)
• Screwdriver
• Voltage tester
• Wire stripper
• Wire nuts (included with most fixtures)
• Screws and wall anchors (for surface mounting)
• Level
• Measuring tape or pencil

Installation Steps

Step 1: Turn Off Power
At the breaker panel, shut off power to the installation circuit. Use a voltage tester to confirm that no current is present before starting.

Step 2: Prepare the Ceiling Opening (Recessed & Trimless Only)
If the fixture requires a ceiling cutout, use the provided template to mark your opening. Cut carefully with a drywall saw or hole cutter. Trimless models may require deeper space and additional setup for seamless finishing.

Step 3: Install Mounting Hardware or Fixture Housing

• For recessed and trimless designs, insert the housing into the ceiling cavity and secure it with spring clips or fasteners. Trimless models may need joist framing for proper support.
• Semi-recessed fixtures partially install into the ceiling and are secured per the included instructions.
• Surface-mounted downlights attach directly to the ceiling surface or an existing junction box using screws and wall anchors.
• Track fixtures require the installation of a compatible track system first. The fixture then locks into place on the track.

Step 4: Connect the Wiring
Match the fixture wires to the ceiling wires:

• Black to black (live)
• White to white (neutral)
• Green or bare to the ground wire
Secure each connection with wire nuts, and neatly place the connected wires back into the housing or box.

Step 5: Final Assembly

• Trimless fixtures must be mudded and feathered into the ceiling plane before final painting for a seamless finish.
• Recessed, semi-recessed, and surface fixtures are typically completed by twisting or snapping the trim or body into place.
• For track lights, position and rotate each fixture head along the track as needed after locking it into the track rail.

Step 6: Restore Power and Test
Return to the breaker panel and switch the circuit back on. Use the wall switch or dimmer to test your fixture and verify proper operation.

Important Tips

• Professional installation is recommended for trimless or recessed downlights, especially when mudding or insulation is involved.
• Always follow local electrical codes and regulations during installation.
• Use only compatible drivers and dimmers as specified for the fixture.
• Maintain safe spacing from insulation when installing into ceiling cavities to prevent overheating.
