A. Mortise Hinges

Step 1: Mark Placement

  • Top hinge: 5–7 inches from the top of the door.
  • Bottom hinge: 10–12 inches from the bottom.
  • Third hinge (if used): centered between top and bottom.

Step 2: Mortise the Door and Frame

Trace the hinge outline. Chisel shallow recesses into the door edge and frame so the hinge leaf sits flush.

Step 3: Pre-Drill Screw Holes

Place the hinge in the mortise, mark screw locations, and drill pilot holes.

Step 4: Attach Hinges
