Click-Lock Install Flooring
Click-lock installation is the floating-floor system used across the Residence Supply waterproof program. Each plank locks into the next using a precision Uniline tongue-and-groove mechanism, with the entire floor floating over a moisture-barrier underlayment without being glued or nailed to the subfloor. The result is dramatically faster installation than glued hardwood, easy plank replacement if damage occurs, and broad compatibility with almost any clean, flat, level subfloor.
How Click-Lock Works
Each plank carries a milled edge profile that locks into the adjacent plank with a precise click. The Uniline system allows two install techniques: angle-down (drop-and-lock) and flat-with-tapping-block. Both methods are forgiving of small mistakes, which is part of why click-lock is accessible for experienced DIYers.
Installation Timeline
A typical 1,000 square foot floor installs in approximately one day. Click-lock is dramatically faster than glued-down hardwood, which makes it ideal for renovation projects on a deadline and commercial fit-outs where downtime matters.
DIY vs Professional
Floating click-lock floors can be self-installed by experienced DIYers. The locking system is designed to forgive small mistakes. For larger spaces or complex layouts, professional installation is faster.
Required Underlayment
A 6mm clear polyfilm moisture barrier underlayment is required between the click-lock floor and the subfloor. Some patterns ship with the underlayment already attached to the plank.
Subfloor Compatibility
- Concrete slab — the most common subfloor in our region
- Plywood and OSB wood subfloors
- Existing vinyl flooring (if flat and secure)
- Existing tile (if flat and grout lines not deeper than 1/8 inch)
The Substantial Feel
Modern 5.5mm SPC and 12mm WPC planks have enough mass that the floor doesn't feel hollow underfoot. WPC's wood-plastic core actually provides a quieter, warmer step than rigid SPC.
Plank Replacement
A click-lock floor can be partially disassembled and a damaged plank swapped in about an hour. Color consistency from box to box is excellent because the decor layer is printed.
Long-Term Performance
Our 20-mil click-lock vinyl is rated for approximately 25 years residential and 10 years commercial.
