Residence Supply introduces LE FLÂNEUR, a 21-piece furniture collection by French designer Alexandre Ligios, marking the Miami design house's first venture into furniture and the beginning of its work as a platform and patron for independent artists and designers.
The launch marks a major milestone for the three-year-old company, which has built its name in intimate lighting and architectural hardware through an appreciation for craftsmanship, natural materials, and historical design. Residence Supply is now extending that same conviction beyond the objects it creates to the independent artists and designers who share the same appreciation.
Alexandre Ligios Finds Inspiration Between Corsica and Morocco
Born in Corsica, Ligios began his adventure in furniture design after moving to Morocco, where he encountered artisans capable of translating his imagination into physical forms. His work has since developed a distinctive language of generous proportions, organic silhouettes, and unapologetic color, often being born with little more than an observation, a memory, an emotion, or an instinct. "Morocco gave me the possibility of turning what existed in my imagination into something real," Ligios told Residence Supply. "There I met artisans able to understand my ideas, to interpret them and, above all, to bring them to life."
The collection takes its name from the French cultural figure of the wanderer, someone who moves through the world with curiosity rather than a destination. It's an appropriate description of Ligios, whose pieces are reflections of the cities he's lived in, places he's imagined, and ordinary encounters that we're conditioned to overlook. The collection's Los Angeles Sofa takes its form from a cloud over an imagined city. The Domino Coffee Table was conceived after Ligios watched a kid playing with his dominoes on the floor. L'Intemporelle, with its undulating backrest and generous upholstery, began as a reinterpretation of the traditional Moroccan banquette.
"I don't think design necessarily has to be serious or intellectual to have value," Ligios said. "A piece can be beautiful, functional, amusing, or unexpected without needing to be constantly justified."
Residence Supply Opens a New Chapter for Independent Design
The collection introduces 21 pieces of furniture, upholstered in velvet, boucle, and striped textiles, with solid oak, walnut, and lacquer finishes. Its palette moves between ochre, olive, burgundy, and warm neutrals, with each piece carrying its own personality.. Every piece is made to order, with an estimated production lead time of twelve weeks. For Residence Supply, the decision to introduce furniture through a named independent designer is making a bet that the next chapter in the industry will be written by those who can produce beautiful objects and also invest in the people, ideas, and craftsmanship behind them. The collection arrives alongside a campaign that follows Ligios's creative process from Corsica to Casablanca, using a single red thread to connect the designer's observations, experiences, and the places that inform his work. The release establishes a new direction for Residence Supply as it begins opening its commercial and editorial platform to independent artists and designers.
