How to Layer Modern Lamps in a Room
Most rooms need three light sources at different heights. Modern lamps cover all three levels: a floor lamp handles the mid-to-upper zone, a table lamp covers the seating area, and a pendant or ceiling light handles overhead. Getting all three right is what makes a room feel lit rather than just bright.

Tripod Floor Lamps
Tripod bases spread about 15 to 20 inches and hold without needing a weighted base, which keeps them lighter and easier to move. Tight corners do not work; they need open floor space. Modern Table Lamps
Modern lamps in table lamp form are sized by where they sit. The shade bottom should land at or near seated eye level. For a nightstand, 26 to 28 inches total height works for most standard combinations. For a side table beside a sofa, 28 to 32 inches gives better coverage. Modern lamps for overhead use split into two categories depending on ceiling height. Flush and semi-flush ceiling lights work in rooms with 8 foot ceilings where a hanging fixture would sit too low. Mount them at 60 to 65 inches from the floor for general use, or at eye level beside a mirror for even face lighting. Choosing a Finish for Modern Lamps
