About Cabinet Hardware
Cabinet hardware for doors and drawers
Cabinet hardware changes how cabinetry looks, but its daily use matters just as much. A drawer pull that feels comfortable in a showroom might sit too close to the cabinet door once installed. A small knob can suit an upper cupboard yet feel awkward on a heavy drawer.
The collection includes cabinet knobs and cabinet pulls in different sizes, shapes, and finishes. Start with the existing cabinetry. Door width, drawer weight, and current screw holes will narrow the selection before finish becomes part of the decision.

Choosing cabinet hardware
Cabinet knobs suit smaller doors because they use one fixing point and take up little space. A round knob gives a familiar grip. Square and decorative designs stand out more clearly against flat cabinet doors.
Cabinet pulls work better on wide drawers and tall pantry doors. They give the hand more room and spread the force across two screws. Bar pulls create a long, clean line, while cup pulls sit close to the drawer front and suit traditional kitchen cabinet hardware.
Knobs and pulls do not need to be used in equal numbers. Many kitchens use knobs on upper cabinet doors and pulls on lower drawers. Keep the finish consistent and choose shapes that share a similar weight.
How to measure cabinet pulls
Pull size is usually listed by the center-to-center measurement. This is the distance between the two screw holes, not the full length of the handle.
Measure existing holes before ordering replacement hardware. A new pull with the same center-to-center size fits without drilling. When the measurement changes, the old holes need filling or covering with a backplate.
Compare the pull with the drawer front. A short handle often looks undersized on a broad drawer. Longer cabinet pulls suit larger surfaces, but they need clearance beside walls and appliances.
Knob placement is simpler, though alignment still shows across a row of cabinets. Use a drilling template rather than marking each cabinet separately.
Cabinet knobs and pulls in brass, bronze, and nickel
Brass adds warmth to painted cabinetry and natural wood. Polished brass has a bright surface, while brushed and aged finishes show fewer fingerprints. Solid brass usually feels heavier than zinc hardware and changes differently as it wears.
Bronze has deeper brown undertones. It works with vintage cabinetry, dark timber, and traditional design. Finish names vary between brands, so compare samples before matching new cabinet hardware with existing door hardware or lighting.
Brushed nickel has a quieter appearance than polished chrome. It sits comfortably beside stainless steel appliances and pale cabinet finishes. Matte black creates stronger contrast, particularly against white doors or light oak.
Every metal in the room does not need to match. Repeat one finish in another visible detail, such as the faucet or light fixture, and let the cabinet hardware sit naturally with the rest of the kitchen design.
Matching hardware to cabinet style
Traditional cabinetry often suits round cabinet knobs, cup pulls, or handles with a shaped edge. Flat-panel doors work well with slim pulls and simple knobs.
Transitional hardware falls between those two styles. It keeps the familiar proportions of classic hardware but removes much of the decorative detail. This makes it useful on shaker cabinets and updated kitchens.
Scale remains more important than a style label. A delicate knob works on a small glass-front door but feels weak on a tall pantry cabinet. A long pull balances a wide drawer and looks oversized on a narrow bedside cabinet.
Replacing existing cabinet hardware
Replacement is straightforward when the new hardware uses the same holes. A cabinet knob needs one screw. A pull requires two holes at the correct spacing.
Old hardware sometimes leaves marks around the fixing points. A backplate covers minor damage and protects painted doors from rings and fingernails. Test one piece before fitting the full collection.
Check the screw length as well. Cabinet doors and drawer fronts vary in thickness. A screw that is too long prevents the hardware from tightening, while one that is too short will not hold securely.
Details that affect everyday use
Projection shows how far the knob or pull stands away from the cabinet. A low-profile handle looks neat but leaves less space for the fingers. Heavier drawers need a grip that feels secure rather than decorative.
Sharp corners catch clothing in narrow walkways. This is common around kitchen islands and cabinets near doorways. Rounded ends reduce that problem without changing the overall design.
Finish also affects maintenance. Polished surfaces show fingerprints quickly. Brushed finishes disguise small marks, while unlacquered brass develops a darker patina where it receives the most contact.
Care and maintenance
Wipe cabinet hardware with a soft cloth and mild soap when grease builds up. Dry the surface afterward so moisture does not sit around the screws or backplate.
Avoid abrasive cleaners on brass, bronze, nickel, and matte black finishes. Metal polish is unsuitable unless the brand specifically recommends it. Tighten loose screws before the pull begins rubbing against the cabinet, and keep one spare piece from the same collection for future replacement.
